This mild and moist simple scones recipe allows you to do some fun experimentation in the kitchen. You can customize these scones to the preferences of you and your family or friends. By changing up one or more of the ingredients, you’ll have a new variation of this recipe every time you bake with it.

These scones are a great treat to have for breakfast along with a hot cup of coffee. You can also enjoy them as a mid-afternoon snack with a cup of hot tea. If you prepare these scones for company, your guests will think you have gone all out to welcome them.

If you’re looking for a special treat for a holiday brunch, this scone recipe is just right. You can add in seasonal dried fruits such as cranberries along with white chocolate chips or crushed walnuts. During the summer, you could add dried cherries or blueberries for a fruity option. If you prefer a simpler taste, skip the add-ins and opt for a lemon or anise extract to flavor the scones.

The cooked scones can be wrapped tightly in plastic and stored at room temperature for up to one week. You can also store the finished scones in a freezer-safe container for up to one month–if they last that long!
