If you are looking for the perfect dessert to enjoy during cold weather, then hot apple crumb is a delightful alternative to traditional apple pie. What is truly divine about apple crumb is that it goes well with ice cream and is easy to whip together for any occasion. Allowing the finished crumb to settle in the refrigerator overnight will make this dessert’s ingredients combine more intensely for a much richer taste.
A good apple crumb is easy to achieve the first time you make it. Unlike an apple pie, you do not have to worry so much about getting a perfect-looking crust. Rather, a crumb will tend to look less elegant than a formal pie but will still indulge your family or guests with a truly satisfying taste. For best results, it is recommended that you use a baking dish that has the following dimensions: 12 1/4 in. by 10 1/4 in. by 2 1/4 in.
Although elevation can alter baking instructions somewhat, for this recipe, it is recommended to preheat the oven to 200 C° (400 degrees F). Cooking time will be for a minimum of 25 minutes to a maximum of 35 minutes. Generally, if you notice the apple crumb has a nice golden or dark-brown color, then it is time to take it out of the oven and allow it to cool.

Ingredients

  • 6 medium-sized apples

  • 1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1/4 cup of white sugar

  • 1/2 cup of brown sugar

  • 1 tsp cinnamon powder

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1 large stick of melted butter

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 2 tsp pineapple juice

Directions

  • After assembling all the ingredients, begin by skinning the six apples with a knife or carrot slicer. Then, use an apple slicer to core and form uniform-sized apple wedges.
  • Distribute the apple wedges evenly across the bottom of the baking dish. Any leftover slices may be used to form a second layer.
  • Place the dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
  • Then, pour in the melted butter and combine thoroughly until the flour, sugar, cinnamon and butter mixture starts to thicken up and become more like dough or a crumbly textured substance.
  • Spoon and distribute this crumbly mixture in between and over the top of the apple slices. Try to keep the mixture evenly distributed, filling and covering the apples as well as possible. If necessary, use your fingers to work the crumbly substance into crevices, evening the surface out as you go.
  • Drizzle the vanilla extract across the surface of the crumb, and use the can of pineapple juice to lightly moisten the top of the crumb.
  • If your oven is finished preheating to 200 C° (400 degrees F), place the baking dish into the oven and allow the apple crumb to bake for 25 minutes. Check every few minutes to see if the apple crumb has turned a golden-brown color. When the desired color is achieved, pull the apple crumb out of the oven and allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.
