Banana pudding is a staple in the southern part of the United States. Often made from vanilla cookies with layers of pudding and whipped cream, you’ll find dozens of recipes out there. Some recipes even call for salted crackers in place of the cookies, which gives the finished pudding a slightly savory flavor.
Some food historians believe that the classic banana pudding recipe found today comes from the trifles found throughout England and parts of Europe. Immigrants from Europe moved to the U.S. and used their existing recipes with the produce that was readily available. As bananas grow in humid and warm climates like those found in the South, it’s clear why that part of the country focused on using bananas in their layered puddings.
Recipes with a modern twist involve a light and fluffy meringue topping added to the pudding before baking, and other recipes use a baked pudding with bananas as the base. Others love the traditional flavors of a classic banana pudding recipe.
Banana pudding is something that you can serve whenever bananas are in season. It keeps well in a refrigerator or a cooler, making it the perfect dish to serve on a warm summer day at home or during a picnic.

Ingredients
2 packages instant banana-flavored pudding
3 cups milk
1 box vanilla wafer cookies
4 sliced bananas
450 g (16 oz) of whipped topping
1 cup condensed milk (sweetened)
2 tbsp vanilla sugar
Directions
- Mix regular milk with condensed milk in a large bowl
- Add instant pudding to mixture and mix well. Leave in the refrigerator for 5 minutes.
- Meanwhile, whip the cream with the vanilla sugar until soft peaks form.
- Using a blender, crumble the cookies
- Take the pudding out of the fridge and carefully add the whipped cream from step 3. For mixing, it is better to use a spatula instead of a mixer.
- Stir the mixture from the edges to the center until it becomes homogeneous. The pudding is ready.
- Take small cups or one large bowl. Put a piece of pudding on the bottom. Then add a layer of crumbled cookies. Lay another layer of pudding on top. Add a second layer of cookies and then pieces of chopped bananas.
- For better taste, refrigerate the pudding for about 2 hours.
