Ranch & Rosemary – a not-so-common combination that will leave you wanting more!
Chicken is one of the most common protein sources found throughout the world, and is popular as a main dish in the US. One of the reasons chicken is commonly found on American dinner tables is because it is so healthy. Chicken is high in protein, low in fat and contains many important nutrients.

Eating chicken brings a number of health benefits. For instance, studies have shown that chicken is a natural anti-depressant. Chicken contains tryptophan, which is an amino acid that helps you feel comforted, will enhance your mood and even help you to fall asleep easily.

Since chicken is so high in protein, you will also find that it is good for improving bone density. This helps to fight against osteoporosis. The protein in chicken also helps your body build lean muscle and burn fat.

When you eat one serving of chicken, you are getting 70 percent of your recommended daily amount of protein and 97 percent of your recommended vitamin B3. This vitamin helps to lower cholesterol and improve cardiovascular health. You also will get selenium, vitamin B6 and phosphorus with each serving of chicken.

Since chicken is such a healthy food source, it is ideal for the main dish in any meal. Chicken can be served for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Everyone, including the kids, will love this main dish especially when made with the right chicken recipe like the one below.

Keep in mind that this recipe is written for chicken breasts, but you can also cut the breasts into small, 1-inch cubes and make kabobs. You can also cook the chicken in your kitchen in a pan, you can bake it in the oven or cook it on your grill.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup of olive oil

  • 1/2 cup of ranch dressing

  • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, minced

  • 2 teaspoons salt

  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice, freshly squeezed

  • 1 teaspoon of white vinegar

  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, freshly ground

  • 1 tablespoon white sugar, optional

  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

Directions

  • In a medium bowl, mix the olive oil, Worcestershire sauce, ranch dressing, rosemary, lemon juice, salt, pepper, white vinegar and sugar. Allow this to sit for five minutes. Place the chicken in the bowl and ensure that it is covered with the marinade. Cover the bowl and place in a refrigerator for 30 minutes.
  • Pre-heat your grill or a pan over medium-high heat. When ready, place the chicken breasts or skewered chicken onto an oiled grill or pan and discard the marinade.
  • Cook the chicken for 8 to 12 minutes. It is done when there is no pink in the middle and the juice from the chicken is clear. Alternatively, you can bake the chicken in an oven at 400 degrees F for 30 to 40 minutes.
